Soft Awakening
When the streetlights turn off and the world returns to its regular color scheme
The haze of yellow fades to a soft purple dawn
The dewy morning seems much more clean
There is a crispness to the air that you cannot deny
As the world is blanketed in mauves, blues, the potential of a new day
The birds are only just beginning to wake
And as the sun is deciding its path
The rustle of blankets and the stirring of bodies nestled between sheets
Gently wakes me from my slumber
As my eyes slowly adjust to my surroundings
I am reminded of your peace
Your arms reach out for me and pull me close
As I gaze upon your face at rest
Blissfully unaware of the happenings beyond this bed
And I cannot help but think
That you are the loveliest sunrise I have ever seen
