Empty Pockets
Dearest
I never wished for a future together
I wished for the now
I wished you would see
The twinkle in my eyes
As a sign
That you should grab me
And kiss me
Deeply
Passionately
And for longer than you intended
The coins tinkling down the well
Were for you to garner the courage
To make me your own
I have always been yours for the taking
You never had to ask
But I suppose in order to be taken
One must be wanted first
And that’s where
I went wrong
With my wish
And all my coins
Are at the bottom of this wishing well
Laughing at me
In my pathetic loneliness
