Selective Amnesia
Please tell me
Help me understand
Why I can’t remember
Conversations of yesterday
Outfits from last week
Memories of months past
But I remember
How the wind tasted last Tuesday
The sunset from February 17th
The cardinal I witnessed one gray morning
The pattern of rain drops on the front step
They way your eyes twinkled
When your lips spoke of things
That fascinate you beyond this world
The sharpness of my teeth on my own lips
As I hoped I were one of them
The glow of the light on skin
The night we said hello for the first time
Perhaps it’s not that I have a bad memory
Maybe I just remember what I think
Is important
And worth remembering
